Winter

Winter has officially arrived although it doesn't look like we'll be in for a white Christmas this year. Took this shot about 1992 of a Plymouth we found in the woods near the site of a house that had burned down in the 1980s.
It was cold that day.

Street Survivors Christmas Breakfast & Car Show

Despite downright cold temperatures (it was 22 degrees at 7:30 A.M.)  the show was nice and they raised a nice donation for The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Some really beautiful machines were on display and the breakfast was good. Most of us had not seen this DeSoto before and it was a really nice, original car.

Christmas Breakfast & Car Show

It looks like the weather is going to be clear and cold for the Christmas Breakfast and Car Show at The Legion tomorrow. I'm pretty sure that this is the first one in the last two or three years that wasn't threatened by rain so the turnout should be pretty good. For those of you worried about football and aren't going to the Ravens game, it's over at 1:00 P.M. so that gives you time to get to wherever you're going to watch.
With the exception of the Holy Donut, this is probably the last outdoor get together for the year. Of course some of the die hards will be meeting up bright and early in Burtonsville most Sunday mornings.

Old Cars

People have asked me why I like the '49 - '52 Chevy style on occasion and the reply I usually give is that I started out with a 1951 Chevrolet four door Sedan that my grandfather gave to me in 1974. I think I became fascinated with them at that point. I remember riding with my grandparents in that car as far back as four or five years old and was surprised that it was getting passed on to me. Unfortunately the condition of the body was such that we decided to pull his motor and put that into a 1950 four door Sedan that I was able to purchase for $100. Here is grandpa's '51 in a Polaroid shot I took back in 1974.

Here is the recipient of his 216 cid inline six engine - the 1950 Four Door DeLuxe Sedan.

That's how all of this got started and you couldn't get me to trade the education and memories that came with them for anything....

The East Coast Indoor Nationals are at Timonium December 3 & 4

That's right folks, the Indoor Nationals are almost here. Held annually at Timonium Fairgrounds, this is a chance to see all types of neat machines in the comfort of the Cow Palace. With the exception of the Church of The Holy Donut, this show and the Christmas Breakfast and Car Show at the American Legion should be it until next Spring for most of us.

Goodbye to Marley 2011.

Another car cruising season is in the books and the weather was great for November last night at Marley Station in Glen Burnie, Maryland. It wasn't a huge crowd but there were some die hards who stayed until they were asked to "please leave so we call it for the year".
We had a nice surprise visit by Fred from NC in his 1950 Plymouth. Thanks for coming up Fred! Two years in a row for the last cruise night at Marley Fred has made the 200+ mile drive from North Carolina in his Plymouth.

Try this link to see photos from the last cruise in of 2011 at Marley:

5th Annual Veterans Appreciation Car Show

Another year is almost in the books and the 5th Annual Veterans Appreciation Car Show appeared to be a success. The weather was fantastic - going from the brisk, cool thirties to a high in the sixties typical of this time of year. Here is a link to more of the photos.

Car Cruising Season Is Winding Down

Today is the first day of November - 11-1-11 and the warm and sometimes downright hot cruise nights of July and August are just a memory now. This will probably go down as one of the wettest cruising seasons around here that many have seen.
For most of us there will only a few more meet ups this year. They may be this Friday and a couple more Saturdays and the Shows on November 6 and in December at the Legion. Some of us will go out to the last show in Timonium in December and the rest may hang it up until next year. Whatever you do, hold onto the friends and the joy that you had from those times over the past year until the Spring thaw and we all start again in 2012.

Jalopyrama #8 - October 22, 2011

Some of us made the early morning drive to Annapolis last Saturday leaving in the predawn to "get inside the fence". When I pulled away from the house, the temperature was around 41 degrees but it turned out to be pretty nice and a good time was had by all.

The first post on a new blog.

This is the first post on our blog that has been established for the members of the Old Liners Car Club. We are a group of antique, classic, custom and traditionally styled hot rod American car enthusiasts located in the state of Maryland in the U.S.A.. Old iron is what we like and this is a place we can meet virtually to post about what we are working on, collecting, look for information or share information.
If you'd like to participate and you fall under any of the above, we'd like for you to join us. If you are into tuners, foreign cars, or modern muscle cars then there is someplace other than here just waiting to hear from you.
